On the Web: November 2006 Archives
At the risk of completely exposing my geek-factor, I was a huge Twin Peaks fan in high school. I sort of lost interest once they revealed who Laura Palmer's killer was, but the first season was great. So, I was thrilled to find a Twin Peaks rephotography project.
As a matter of sheer coincidence, my wife and I spent part of our honeymoon at the Salish Lodge, the stand-in for the Great Northern Hotel.
Over at his blog, Alec Soth has been talking a lot about underrated photographers lately. In his post about Denis Cameron, he quotes Cameron: "Our work is to record our world and history will judge us from what we leave behind. Pictures will be our epitaph.”
Last week's New Yorker featured a profile of Jerry Shore, a photographer unknown to me and a great many other people apparently. Few friends or acquaintances knew of his photography and he sold only one image in his life. Now, 12 years after his death, his prodigious, but unknown, output truly serves as his epitaph.
I am beginning to feel like I'm drownng in interesting sites and am having a hard time keeping track of, let alone digesting all the great stuff people are pumping out. A bit sad as I personally find less and less time for this site.
Over at Personism, gallerist jen bekman (am I not supposed to capitalize that, like bell hooks?) has posted a bunch of photography related links.
Also of interest are Still Journal and Intersecting Images, both of which have been added to the link list on the right.
